Fol­low Me At Google+ But­tons, Add Me To Your Cir­cles Buttons!

Have you been wait­ing for a but­ton to in­vite peo­ple to your Google+ pro­file? The wait is over!

With so­cial but­tons you can usu­ally do 1 of 3 things:

1. You can share some­thing you find in­ter­est­ing with your fol­low­ers. When you share, it will show up in your stream or on your wall. The ‘Tweet’ but­ton works like this.

2. You can give your vote for a piece of web con­tent. The Face­book ‘like’ but­ton or Google’s ‘+1’ but­ton work like this.

3. You can in­vite peo­ple to visit your pro­file and fol­low you. Think of  ‘Fol­low Me’ but­tons for Twitter.

For Google+ so far we have seen the +1 But­ton. You can use it to mark some web con­tent as wor­thy. When you put it on your own site, your read­ers can add their vote to your posts. That’s good for your rep­u­ta­tion, but it does­n’t ac­tu­ally con­nect any­one to your so­cial pro­file at Google+.

What’s miss­ing is a but­ton to in­vite peo­ple to fol­low you and your Google+ profile.

Ear­lier this evening April Mc­Gowan gave me the idea (thanks April!), so I asked my graph­ics guy Andy to cre­ate a set of but­tons. There’s no fancy pro­gram­ming, it’s just im­ages. You can down­load them, add them to your site, and link them to your Google+ profile.

Ei­ther call it ‘Fol­low Me At Google+’, or call it ‘Add Me To Your Circles.’

Here’s what the but­tons look like. You can down­load any but­ton by right-click­­ing and choos­ing ‘Save as.’ Or you can down­load the zipped set of all Google+ fol­low but­tons.
